Nose: At the opening, the nose is fruity and tangy in a mature register, mixing cherries and strawberries. After stirring, more complex and floral aromas blend with those from the terroir to enable the floral bouquet to express itself. A light peppery touch is noticeable.
On the palate, the attack is broad and rather intense. The acidity is the central support and balances the creamy and length in the mouth. The persistence is remarkable. Its elegance and balance reflect the touch of Stéphane Derenoncourt.

James Suckling – Wine Spectator

En primeur 2013, Score: 87-88. A fruity wine with chocolate and berry. Medium body with fine tannins and a clean finish. This is a new estate for me with eight hectares of vines this appellation.
February 23, 2015, Score: 89. Attractive aromas of black fruits with whipped cream notes. This is a full bodied red combining chewy tannins, fresh acidity and a textured finish. Better in 2017.

Bettane et Desseauve

Decanter Asia Wine Awards

The wine was awarded a Gold Medal at the Decanter Asia Wine Awards in September 2014.
“A delicious, enticing wine with black plum and chocolate, and a juicy blueberry and cassis aroma profile, showing smoky wood notes. Ripe blackberry and cedar, sweet spice, leathery hints, and vibrant fruit well-integrated with oak to give good structure and richness.”

China Wine and Spirits Awards

The wine also won another Gold Medal in Hong Kong in January 2015!

Jane Anson – Decanter, May 2015

“Lovely fruit on the nose, confident and enticing, just the right amount of oak. This captures much of what you go to Castillon for – a polish and sexiness – that is more international than many parts of Bordeaux, great value on offer in this appellation, 75% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc, aged in French oak barrels. A Stephane Derenoncourt wine – and a Decanter gold winner in the 2014 World Wine Awards (tasted blind here). 13.5% abv. Drink 2015-2020.”
